Blog Bringing Sensory Learning to Life at SensePlay Studio

Every child processes the world differently, and for many, hands on, sensory rich experiences unlock learning in ways worksheets never could. That's the space Charry Lee has built at SensePlay Studio, and Neelcamp is glad to introduce families to her work. Charry, Founder and Lead Educator of SensePlay Studio, holds a Master's in Education in Educational Management and Administration, with a specialization in Elementary and K through 12 Special Education, and brings over a decade of experience across classrooms, research projects, and international development initiatives. We wanted to learn more about how she built a program centered on sensory exploration, and what families can expect when they walk through the studio doors.

Can you introduce your organization and provide an overview of your offerings?
"Hi! I'm Charry, founder and lead educator at SensePlay Studio in Fairfax, Virginia. We offer parent-and-me enrichment classes for babies and young children, centered around sensory play, process art, storytelling, music, movement, and cooking. Every class is intentionally designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, and confidence through hands-on exploration. More than a play space, SensePlay is also a place where families build friendships, celebrate milestones, and grow together in a welcoming community. During the summer months, we are also offering enrichment classes focused on Literacy, Numeracy, and Hangul (Korean Language)."
What inspired you to start or run this program?
"SensePlay was born from my own journey into motherhood. As both an educator and a parent, I wanted a space where children could freely explore through meaningful sensory experiences while parents found genuine connection with others navigating the same season of life. I realized families weren't only looking for activities—they were looking for community."
What makes your program special compared to others parents might consider?
"Every activity at SensePlay is thoughtfully designed with a developmental purpose, rather than simply creating a fun craft or messy experience. We intentionally use sensory play to support cognitive, language, motor, and social-emotional development. Just as importantly, we cultivate a welcoming community where parents feel seen, supported, and connected alongside their children's early learning journey."
What kind of transformation do you see in children after completing your program?
"Many children arrive shy or hesitant because it's one of their first experiences outside the home. Over time, we see incredible growth in their confidence, curiosity, communication, and independence. Watching them develop friendships, celebrate new milestones, strengthen both fine and gross motor skills, and discover what they're capable of is one of the most rewarding parts of my work."
What do parents often worry about before enrolling, and how do you address those concerns?
"Many parents wonder whether their child will participate, make a mess, or adjust to a new environment. I always remind them that every child warms up at their own pace. Since I personally teach every class, familiar faces and consistent routines help children feel secure while parents receive encouragement and support every step of the way."
SensePlay Studio is a wonderful example of how sensory based, hands-on learning can help children build confidence, focus, and a genuine love of exploration.
