Blog Building Strong, Confident Kids with KidStrong

Physical activity can be about much more than movement. When combined with purpose, encouragement, and the right guidance, it can help children build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills that support them both in and out of the classroom. Neelcamp is excited to connect with Pete Campana, Managing Director of KidStrong Fairfax. Through KidStrong’s science-based approach to whole-child development, Pete and his team are helping children strengthen their minds, bodies, and character in a fun, supportive environment. With expert coaches, age-appropriate programming, and a focus on confidence, teamwork, and personal growth, KidStrong empowers kids to reach their full potential while having fun every step of the way. We had the opportunity to learn more about Pete’s journey, the mission behind KidStrong Fairfax, and the positive impact families can expect from the program.

Can you introduce your organization and provide an overview of your offerings?
"We are KidStrong Fairfax, a child development center helping kids build physical and mental skills. We run weekly 45-minute classes for children from walking age up to 11 years old. Our curriculum focuses on physical milestones, social skills, and character development. Our local facility features a specialized training floor with obstacle courses, rings, and climbing structures. We also offer active summer and holiday camps, parents’ nights out, & birthday parties for local families."
What inspired you to start or run this program?
"KidStrong saw a gap in early childhood activities that combined physical fitness with specific character development. Traditional sports often focus only on athletic skills, while others focus mainly on academics. We wanted to run a program that explicitly teaches kids how to speak confidently, follow multi-step directions, and build physical strength all within the same class."
What makes your program special compared to others parents might consider?
"The curriculum is made by pediatric occupational therapists, sports scientists, and child development experts. We maintain a small coach-to-student ratio to ensure individual attention. Unlike standard gymnastics or play gyms, every single class targets three specific areas: physical agility, cognitive development, like public speaking and focus, and character traits like leadership and determination."
What kind of transformation do you see in children after completing your program?
"Socially, we see kids who initially refuse to leave their parents learn to look coaches in the eye, shake hands, and speak clearly into a microphone. They develop measurable physical stamina and the confidence to handle new social environments!"
What do parents often worry about before enrolling, and how do you address those concerns?
"Parents worry their child won't focus, will shut down, or can't keep up. We handle this through class routines and tailored feedback from coaches. By breaking down tough skills into manageable steps, we give kids immediate wins. This quickly builds their confidence and helps them master the group pace within just a few classes."
Programs like KidStrong can play an important role in helping children build confidence, resilience, leadership, and social skills. As parents explore opportunities that support their child's growth, it's important to find programs that match their interests, personality, and developmental needs.
