About This Camp

BAM (Becoming A Man) is a highly engaging school-based counseling and mentoring program offered by Youth Guidance. It promotes social-emotional and psychological well-being, strong school engagement, and increased academic attainment for young men in grades 6-12. The program is delivered by skilled youth specialists who work full-time in schools, guiding students through weekly group counseling and mentoring sessions called BAM Circles. These sessions facilitate positive relationships and explore six core values: Integrity, Accountability, Self-Determination, Positive Anger Expression, Respect for Womanhood, and Visionary Goal-Setting. BAM integrates clinical theory and practice, men's rites of passage work, and a dynamic approach to youth engagement, helping young men learn, internalize, and practice social cognitive skills, make responsible decisions for their future, and become positive members of their school and community. Youth Guidance partners with Highline Public Schools in Seattle, with programming currently taking place in Chinook and Sylvester middle schools, and Highline and Tyee high schools.
