Overview

Blum Music Studios is an independent private music studio in Herndon, VA, operated by Nancy Blum — a professional musician and educator with degrees from the Hartt School of Music and the University of Maryland. The studio offers private lessons in piano, clarinet, bassoon, and music theory for students of all ages, from age 3 through adult, including specialized approaches for learning-disabled students. Instruction is available in-person at the studio or virtually, and covers not only instrument technique but also music theory, music history, sight reading, sight singing, improvisation, and genre exploration across classical, jazz, new age, and pop. Students are regularly prepared for school band music, district band and orchestra auditions, ABRSM graded exams, AP Music Theory, and recital performances.

Additional Information

Lessons run 30, 45, or 60 minutes and are offered once or twice per week. Piano instruction follows the Suzuki method for younger students and extends through advanced classical repertoire and AP Music Theory for older students. Clarinet students are prepared for school band requirements and ABRSM exams. Bassoon students typically begin in middle school, though earlier starts are encouraged; instruction includes reed-making and adjustment for double reed players. During clarinet and bassoon lessons, Nancy provides live piano accompaniment so students can experience performing with full musical support. All students are invited to share their progress at studio recitals. Available lesson days include Sunday (8:00 AM – 2:00 PM) and Monday–Tuesday (7:30–9:00 AM and 3:00–7:00 PM).
