About This Camp

Overview

Camp Liberty's 5 acres are filled with the laughter of kids experiencing activities grounded in social emotional learning. What makes Camp Liberty different from other camps is that children have the freedom to choose what their day looks like, but no matter what activity they choose at Camp they are going to be experiencing creativity, personal growth, decision making, team building, conflict resolution, inclusion, and so much more.

Affordably priced to ensure no child is left out, Camp Liberty has served two generations of many families and it is a point of pride that many campers eventually become counselors. Camp Liberty provides what all children need – a safe, creative environment where they can learn, play and nurture their independence.

For the past 50 summers, Camp Liberty has always been a fun place to be, and campers can choose from different activities including theater, dance, ceramics, music, visual arts, capture the flag, soccer, dodgeball, basketball, handball, volleyball, Gaga Ball and of course swimming. Camp is also a place where campers disconnect from technology and engage in outdoor activities, something that can be hard to come by in Jersey City.

Our goal is to ensure that every camper leaves Camp Liberty with unforgettable memories, a stronger sense of self, and the tools to navigate the world with creativity, confidence, and connection. Educational Arts Team's core philosophy of connecting creativity with critical thinking in order to stimulate personal growth and increasing self esteem is at the heart of all of the Camp's activities.

Each summer for over 40 years, EdArts' Camp Liberty's tranquil five acres have offered children ages 6-15 a green sanctuary within an urban environment. Camp Liberty offers young people an outlet for artistic expression, a safe space for social interactions and structured activities for recreation. The goal of Camp Liberty is to create a welcoming environment using EdArts techniques grounded in the arts and social emotional learning, to make positive and memorable experiences and in turn nurture personal growth. Camp Liberty seeks high energy and engaged individuals to join our seasonal team to provide a safe environment for campers and their families.

The Team also runs Camp Liberty, a beloved Jersey City summer camp for children ages 6-15. Tucked between buildings at the edge of Liberty State Park, the camp, with its open-air pavilion, swimming pool, and fairytale forest — where every tree was planted by staff or volunteers — provides a tranquil green space where urban youth can learn, grow, and create together.

Additional Information

Camp Liberty serves children ages 6-12 and includes an in ground swimming pool, ball fields, playground, handball courts, gazebo and theatrical stage.

Our outdoor summer day camp is located in Liberty State Park, and includes an in-ground swimming pool, softball field, multi-purpose field, handball courts, playground, restrooms, changing areas, covered pavilion and stage. Campers can choose from an array of activities such as theater, arts & crafts, recreation, dance, music, swimming and more.

Campers choose from activities like arts, sports, and music and put on an original play with a handmade set and costumes at the end of every two-week session for parents and the community, with the Mayor or other Jersey City officials often in attendance. During a typical summer, 250 children from diverse backgrounds come to the camp daily, with camp leadership raising funds from donors and corporate sponsors to ensure that low-income children, including recent refugees, can attend on full scholarships.
