Become a cool musician and learn how to write, perform, and produce your own song! We will explore fundamentals of songwriting and composition, learn basic skills on the ukulele, enjoy a combination of independent work and peer collaboration, and experiment with a digital audio workspace (DAW). Designed for older elementary and middle school students who want an immersive musical experience, this camp will feature lots of creative musical exploration with a combination of acoustic instruments and digital tools. Throughout the week, campers will: compose their own songs as a class and/or individually, listen to, explore, and experience sound possibilities using an online DAW, play acoustic instruments, such as the ukulele, drums, and many others, participate in engaging activities that reinforce the basic elements of music, including beat, rhythm, and melody, take daily breaks in the park, weather permitting. Students will learn: simple strumming patterns on the ukulele, two-, three-, and four-chord songs on ukulele, preparation and presentation skills, musicianship and collaboration skills through creation and performance, self-confidence, self-expression, and social skills.
