Overview

The Early Identification Program (EIP) Summer Academy is an annual, intensive three-week program hosted at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, serving rising 9th through 12th grade first-generation college-bound students. Established in 1987, EIP is GMU's college preparatory program with over 2,600 graduates. The Summer Academy is EIP's longest-running signature program, offering over 200 hours of instruction delivered by certified public school teachers, college mentors, and dedicated staff. Students receive structured academic enrichment in core subjects including math, English, science, and STEM, alongside college success and career readiness electives. Daily seminars guide students through college preparation, application strategy, financial aid, campus life, and academic retention — equipping them with both knowledge and confidence for higher education.

Additional Information

The 2026 Summer Academy runs July 6 through July 24. Parent meetings will be held in June 2026 prior to the program start. Bus schedules are released the week before programs begin, and individual student course schedules are sent via email the week prior to the start date.

The program focuses on three core pillars: academic enrichment through core subject instruction and interactive projects; personal development through college peer mentorship and networking; and career exploration through grade-level event days and connections with professionals. Up to two absences are allowed, with extended absences considered on a case-by-case basis with documentation.
