During Mid-Winter Break, we'll travel to the warm beaches and groundbreaking galleries of Art Basel Miami, drawing inspiration from the latest crop of contemporary artists to make a splash at the world-famous fair. We'll use a variety of fine art mediums to explore key elements of each artist's background and style, beginning with the neon-hued pop-culture inspired paintings of Katherine Bernhardt. Next, we'll combine sculpture and fashion design to create whimsical works inspired by Dina Danish's sport shirt series. We'll create quirky collages informed by the clever way Allison Katz breaks up the picture plane in her symbol-rich paintings, and lush self-portraits inspired by Brooklyn-based Colombian artist María Berrío. We'll also decode the poignant messages hidden in bold patterns with a textile project inspired by Jeffrey Gibson.
