Kids Playing Camp, established in 2001 by Kathy, aims to provide a summer camp experience led by adults that incorporates mentoring and guidance for children. The camp focuses on creating a fun, safe, and respectful environment where campers learn values like acceptance, diversity, and respect, while developing lifelong skills. The camp prioritizes physical and emotional safety, with a well-trained Senior Leadership Team that regularly reviews procedures and receives additional training. Kids Playing Camp partners with Northeastern Illinois University. The camp offers a wide range of sports and outdoor activities led by Leadership and College coaches, including Backyard Games, Badminton, Basketball, Football Bowling, Floor Hockey, Frisbee, Gaga, Kickball, Old Fashioned Games, Ping Pong, Running Bases, Softball/T-Ball, Socially Distanced Games, Soccer, Swimming, Team Building, Tetherball, Tennis, Tumbling, Volleyball, and Wall Climbing. Beyond sports, activities include Craft Projects from Recycled Materials, Engineering Activities, Guest Artists, Mayor's Reading Challenge, Outdoor Nature Education, Science Experiments, and Kids In the Kitchen. The camp also features weekly 'Kids Theme Days' such as Red White Blue, Super Hero/Heroine, Winter Wonderland, Olympic Day, Treasure Hunt Day, Color Wars, Willie Wonka, Be What You Want Day, Splish Day Day, Save the Planet, Carnival Day, and Block Party. Additionally, 'Out of the Box' activities like Dance Contest, Snapshot Day, No Sew for Kids, Cookie Decorating, Create Your Own Game, Minute to Win It, Hippo Hop, and Balloons Galore are offered.
