Math Magic

About This Camp
Abracadabra! Alakazam! In this magical week of camp, magic is not just in the wand but in the numbers too! Campers will learn the secrets of optical illusions, the science of sleight of hand, and the mathematical magic behind mind-bending tricks that will amaze young and old. Make your own Magic 8 ball, shock your friends with sneaky card tricks, build a box that can make objects disappear, and more in this mind-blowing week of crafts, riddles, puzzles, and problem-solving! At Girls Rock Math we believe that math is truly spellbinding!
At Girls Rock Math we reinforce that math is fun and imaginative. We aim to boost interest and confidence in mathematics.
Daily Schedule:
PM Extended Day includes recess, snack, stories, games and STEM activities.
Nondisclosure of medical, psychological or behavioral challenges may result in a child being sent home from camp without refund. Any information you provide is confidential and will only be shared with our educational staff members.
Girls Rock Math camps are multi-age and allow for a range of learners to approach the content together. Most of the time a typical learner should do just great in a camp designed for the grade she is entering in the fall. If you have a child who struggles with math or is advanced, please see our FAQ to determine if your child should be placed in a lower or higher camp. Our registration system will not allow children too young, too old, or outside of the grade band listed in the enrollment forms to register for a camp they are not eligible for. If you believe your child should be placed in a camp outside of the range available to her for any reason, we can discuss the best placement for your child.
If your child has a learning difference, please specify what kind and how we can support your child in the Learning Profile during registration. Our staff is trained to work with a wide range of learners, including those with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and those who have IEPs in math, but we need to have that information in advance to best prepare for your child.
We ask that you select the camp for your child based on where you believe she will be most successful. You can view the Skills and Standards for any camp in the camp description on our website. We cannot refund camp fees if you register your child for a camp that does not fit her social or academic level, have not disclosed her learning needs, or have not provided our staff with information needed in order to support your child academically at camp.
In order to be as inclusive and equitable as possible during camp we will work with your campers to ensure that diversity is valued and campers receive the support they need at camp. This means:
Full disclosure of your child's medical, emotional and behavioral status upon registration is required in order for us to create the most fun and safe camp experience for your child and for all campers. Our staff are highly qualified and have the ability to work with a wide range of learners, including those with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, or those who have IEPs in mathematics, but we can only do so when we have the information and time to create a plan of action ahead of time.
When you sign up for camp, please select a camp which you anticipate your child attending the full week. We are unable to register children for partial weeks and do not provide a reduced rate if your child cannot attend the entire week. We recognize that due to travel sometimes children may miss a Monday or Friday. Our camp staff will do their best to make the camp experience positive for any child who misses a day.
If Girls Rock Math Cancels your Session
At Girls Rock Math we aren't just doing math. We play games, sing songs, create art, meet new friends and make amazing memories.
Art + Math = Fun Campers do daily arts and crafts projects that integrate a variety of math skills into the projects. What comes home may look like a fun craft, but behind the pretty picture is plenty of math!
Building Community Girls Rock Math campers collaborate, share ideas, listen, and build friendships over the course of the week. Community building activities are part of every day at camp and help contribute to increased self-esteem and self-image.
Small Groups Campers are placed into small groups with a dedicated counselor. This allows campers to get more attention and support during math activities. Our experienced teachers lead and oversee the whole camp class while the counselor works closely with her campers specifically, getting to know them well and helping them grow.
Active, Playful Math Experiences We make math fun! Many of our math activities are done outside, involve real-world problem-solving, partner activities, and projects. We make math meaningful and engaging!
Fun and Games Our campers learn through play! Math games are incorporated into every day of camp and bring so much joy into learning. Who said math isn't fun?
Learning Never Stops With all the fun happening, you may wonder when do the campers do math? All day! Activities, games and projects will have campers measuring, finding area and perimeter, doing computation, graphing, probability, geometry, and a lot more. Math concepts, skills, and practice are integrated into arts and exciting themes so that math happens throughout the day.
It's play time! Our campers get lots of recess and time outside. Their brains are working hard, so they should get to play hard too!
Social Emotional Learning The Circle Up is a special time of day when small groups meet with their counselor. Topics focus on a variety of social emotional skills that change weekly. Campers may discuss friendship and inclusion, growth mindset, kindness, bravery, speaking up, celebrating individuality, appreciating one another, leadership and collaboration. Each week also includes an introduction to STEM and STEM careers.
Empowering Mentors Our staff members are superheroes! They inspire, support and guide campers throughout the week with the focus of making sure every camper feels like she is included and valued at camp. They focus on finding the positive strengths in each camper, celebrating them, and helping each girl grow.
Camp Spirit From Silly Socks to Rainbow Day, and everything in between, we love to show our camp spirit every Friday! On Fridays we have a big end-of-the week celebration where we thank and appreciate one another and the staff, and everyone gets a pin for their years at camp.
Water Play Our weekly water play day is always a blast! Campers splash, spray, and play wet and wild games each Friday afternoon. On days when the weather means campers can't play outside they participate in an epic camp-themed scavenger hunt!
