Overview

River Farm Forest School (RFFS) is a nature-based cooperative learning community serving Kindergarten through 8th grade students. The program follows an outdoor "forest school" model on the grounds at 1909 Windmill Lane in Alexandria, VA. RFFS loosely follows the Fairfax County Public Schools vacation schedule, typically beginning in August and ending in June. Daily aftercare is available for the 2025-2026 school year from 3:00–5:30 p.m. Enrollment is open to K-8 applicants; kindergarten students must be five years old by September 1.

• Membership tuition for the 2025-2026 school year is $8,500 per student. • A non-refundable tuition deposit is required to hold a spot. • Additional fees include application ($75), background check ($35 per parent), new member enrollment fee ($300), annual membership deposit ($300 first child/$270 each additional child), and supplies & extracurriculars ($1,350 for Kindergarten–Upper Elementary, $800 for Middle School). • Families should provide personal gear such as a yoga mat, insect repellent, sun protection, house shoes, extra clothes, and appropriate outdoor rain gear and boots. • RFFS is not licensed to provide transportation.
