Overview

Campers entering grades 2 and 3 are invited to participate in a special half-day camp for aspiring makers and inventors. Get practice using some basic tools and learn the Bakken Museum's invention process while designing and building a unique take-home project.

Additional Information

  • Age Group: Campers entering grades 2 and 3 (Ages 7-8)
  • Session Type: Half-day camp with a morning session (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and a separate afternoon session (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.).
  • Activities: Engage with group problem-solving challenges, skill-building, project time, and take-home tricks.
  • Tools & Materials: Tailored activities, materials, and tools specific to this age group. Practice using basic tools.
  • Invention Process: Learn The Bakken Museum's invention process: Think It, Make It, Improve It, Show It.
  • Take-Home Project: Design and build a unique take-home project.
  • Outdoor Time: Weather permitting, outdoor breaks are included.
  • Snacks: A small, individual serving of snacks is provided in the morning. Students are welcome to bring their own.
  • Water Bottle: Campers are encouraged to bring their own water bottle.
  • Lunch: Campers should bring their own lunch and water bottle. Lunches will be set aside in the morning until lunchtime. No microwave or refrigerator available. Lunches will be conducted outdoors, except under extreme weather conditions.
  • Safety: Staff provide supervision and guidance to minimize risks. Team is trained in safety protocols, including basic first aid.
  • Cost: $240, $216 for Household and Supporting Members.
  • Scholarships: Two levels of need-based scholarships are available.
  • Member Discount: Household and Supporting members receive a 10% discount on registration.
  • Registration: General registration for 2026 summer camp will be announced soon. Summer camps sell out quickly. Waitlists will be made available as sessions become full.
  • Other: Students learn to responsibly use tools and technology. Students spend time outdoors on our grounds at the adjacent park. Bakken educators, camp counselors, and volunteers provide guidance and room for failure. Students learn to share their challenges and celebrate successes. Students benefit from a low student-to-staff ratio (4:1).
